The digital transformation in nursing education and practice

Digital health refers to “the cost-effective and secure use of information and communications technologies in support of health and health-related fields, including healthcare services, health surveillance, health literature, and health education, knowledge and research.” The adoption of digital health solutions has been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, proving they are key for the delivery of care at all levels of the public health system: the patient, the community, the care team, the healthcare institution, and the political and economic environment.

The role of nursing professionals in the development and care of adolescent health in Honduras

Aim: Identify and analyze the role of nursing professionals in the development and care of adolescent health in Honduras, by analyzing the curricular content of the training provided to nursing students with respect to adolescent health, and by studying policies on adolescent health. Methods. Mixed methods study, with a sequential explanatory approach, carried out from May to July 2023 through surveys of nursing schools, analysis of policy documents, a survey with nursing professionals, and a focus group.

En este informe se recogen los debates e intervenciones del “Foro Regional para el Avance de la Enfermería en América Latina”, así como las conclusiones y los próximos pasos acordados.
El Foro tuvo como objetivo fomentar acciones con las asociaciones nacionales, las federaciones de profesionales y los colegios de enfermería dirigidas a avanzar el debate sobre la inversión nacional en los y las profesionales de enfermería y sobre la implantación de la enfermería de práctica avanzada para la atención primaria de salud.

Adolescent health and the role of the nurse

Check out the special issue "Adolescent health and the role of the nurse" published by the Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem. This special issue was developed by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) with the support of Global Affairs Canada (GAC). It is hoped that the articles published will help disseminate best practices and roles of nurses in different countries and make contributions to governments, policy makers, educational institutions, professional associations and researchers to support effective actions related to adolescent health.

Concepts and issues related to adolescent health in nursing education

Objective: analyze the structure of teaching programs and contents of the adolescent health and its development in nursing education.

Method: descriptive observational study conducted in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Data was collected by the Instrument for (self-)evaluation of the adolescent health and development component in undergraduate nursing programs, and investigated using descriptive statistics.

Nurses work on the front lines of disease prevention, health promotion, and health management and are often the unsung heroes in health care facilities and emergency response. Despite investments to advance interprofessional education, its practice is not institutionalized in the curricula of undergraduate courses.
